Perryn and I went to the Holocaust Museum in DC this weekend. The film at the end of the permanent exhibit shows (among other first-hand accounts of the Holocaust) Gerda Weissmann Klein remembering how she met her husband, an American soldier who helped liberate her and the other surviving women from a Nazi death march.

He asked, “May I see the other ladies?”— a form of address we hadn’t heard for six years… He held the door open for me and let me proceed him, and that was the moment of restoration, of humanity, of humaneness, of dignity, of freedom.
